Hiya people, first off I'm new to the forum, so hi everyone :D

Anyway, as it says in the title I want to access the internet on one windows 98 machine via another. I already have them sharing files happily via a cross-over (or patch) cable, but I can't seem to get them to access the net via a lan in the normal way (ie via 'Internet Options'), so does anyone have any idea as to what I'm doing wrong? Is it even possible to share a dial-up connection (yes, I know it's slow, stop s******ing :p ).

Secondly, digressing from the subject of networking for a moment, the pc that hasn't yet accessed the internet doesn't seem to recognise the '.msi' installation file for apache web server, whereas the other machine does and starts an installation wizard when you run it, will this be remedied by running windows update when I do get it connected?

Many thanks in advance

To connect both PCs simultaneously to the internet you need to be able to do "internet connection sharing" on the PC that connects to the internet. Go to the dialup icon (not the shortcut) right click it and then select sharing.

In order to use ICS you must have win98 second edition - it can not be done on win98 1st edition without 3rd party software.

I hope this helps
