Connected to 5G but with no internet access

12617 Views 16 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Macboatmaster
I can connect to the 2.4 with internet access. When I try to connect to 5G it shows that I’m connected but with no internet access. Happens on phones and computers over WiFi. I’ve attached the picture of what it tells me when I try to run internet troubleshooting. I have spectrum internet with their basic sagemcom [email protected] router. When I reset to factory settings, or restart the gateway from the spectrum login page it will let me connect to 5G with internet for a few days or so. Thank you in advanced for any help, I appreciate it!

The router is 5GHz capable but is the wireless card or usb adapter whichever you are using - in the computer 5GHz as well, some are not and are only 2.4

If you know it is the see the manual for the router
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwjSzsbliMThAhVxtHEKHRlABUsQFjAAegQIAxAC&url=https://d15yx0mnc9teae.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/sup_F5260UserGuide15Apr17-1493911320.pdf&usg=AOvVaw1rZy-134enHnBfWZHVcZXR

and check you have in settings 5GHz enabled
obviously you will have to access the router

Open your web browser, then go to http://192.168.1.1

and then on the user name and password which if it is default is admin and admin and follow setup of 5GHz there, checking as per page 18 to start with
Thank you for the reply. Yes the wireless adapter is capable of 5G, I’m connected to the internet on it now. It will stop allowing internet access in a few days until I either factory reset the router or reset the gateway. It will do the same thing on my iPhone 8, connect with no internet access. It is enabled on the router, as it lets me connect all the time but doesn’t always allow internet access.
Are you connected just to the modem router or do you have a wireless range extender as well
When connected open a command prompt with admin rights
type
ipconfig /all
then when the results appear right click the top bar click edit select all
then right click again click edit and copy and paste to your reply
If it says the default gateway is not available then the router may be having issues.

Do an IPCONFIG /ALL when it's working and then do it again when it's not and see if the IP information changes.
Couriant
I will leave it with you

no range extender, just connected straight to the router. Thank you for the reply.

The ping times for 19.168.1.1 is not good. If you want to confirm how bad, do ping 192.168.1.1 -n 100 when it fails and then post just the ping statistics, but honestly since you have already factory reset the modem and you are still getting those ping times and the time out, I believe the router is defective. Your ISP Should be able to replace it if you are renting it.

edit: the ping time to 192.168.1.1 should be 1ms or >1ms

That many timed out indicate a bad router.

 Report back on your findings!
1. Try this, as I am not so sure it is a bad router as 2.4 works perfectly you say
Check the software version on your netgear
The current one is
V1.0.0.36

To do so follow this DO NOT UPGRADE IT FROM THERE simply post the software version

To check or upgrade the mini adapter's software:

1.
Insert the adapter into a USB port on your computer.

2.Click the NETGEAR genie icon that displays on the Windows systems tray or on the desktop.

The NETGEAR genie Home screen displays.

3.Click the Other button.

On the next screen
Click the Check button.
A window should appear showing which software version is installed and which available.
NOTE please do NOT update from that utility

--------------------------------------------

ALSO try while you wait for me to examine the software version details
Click on network icon in notifications area and then click network and sharing centre
right click the network adapter in network and sharing centre, click properties
click to UNCHECK
IPv6
then click
OK
