I got a new SATA drive that I want to be the drive where the OS is located and have my two IDE drives function as storage drives. However, I don't know how to set them up cablewise for them all to be recognized at once. It either happens that the SATA drive is there or the IDE drives are there.

They should just pretty much work. Of course you will need to install Windows on the SATA drive or copy it over and maybe provide a SATA driver for Windows to recognise the drive.

Your IDE drives can remain configured as they were if they worked. The SATA drive connects into its own controller and does not have any jumper settings for Master and Slave.

I guess you should make sure the SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS or with a jumper. Then add it into the boot order so it is before the IDE drives(you can remove the IDE drives from the boot order completely).

I managed to install Windows XP on my SATA drive, but I can't get all the drives to work together. When I tried setting the IDE drives to master and slave and adding the SATA drive, the system locks up or goes extremely slow.

What if you only connect one IDE drive in at a time? Maybe the powersupply is not up to running so many drives or the jumpers are not being set right. Some drives have a Master with Slave jumper setting setting. Or try Cable Select.
