When i power up my computer it gets to the windows is starting page with the blue flashing stripe then it shuts down and restarts on the Windows was not shut down properly page if i leave it to start normally the cycle is repeated. It will start in safe mode and when i tried the restart at an earlier date thing it just went through the same cycle

...sounds like a driver issue.
What windows version are you using?
Did you install/update any hardware/device drivers?
Can you boot normally when trying the "last known good configuration" setting in the windows startup menu?
Try removing audio/video/network/etc drivers from the Device Manager and try to restart normally. If succesful, re-install drivers one by one. In my experience, you will sometimes find a corrupted driver, but often the whole thing will work just fine again.
