Computer Will Not Boot

702 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cwwozniak
A few months ago my computers USBs stopped working. Then recently, the computer itself will not power on. There isn’t even a charging indicator turning on.
I currently have the Asus ROG Scar III.

Can't fix things that won't turn on - take it to the repair shop.
Hi,Kvevector, and welcome to TSG.

Did you turn off the computer before the latest problem or did it shut down while you let it run unattended? The last time you shut off the laptop, did it still show a significant charge on the battery? Do you have a way of checking if the charger is still putting out a voltage?

Yes I turned my computer off before the latest problem. I believe it was fully charged before shutting it off as well as the charger I purchased was brand new. I don't have a way to check the charger as it is pretty unique to my kind of laptop and doesn't fit my boyfriend's or my school laptop. I've unfortunately come to the conclusion the mobo could be dead. Do you know if a messed up USB port could cause a mobo to die?

I am not saying this applies to your particular brand and model of computer. I could see where some failing power management hardware on the motherboard could first stop supplying power to the USB ports and later fail some more to where the motherboard can no longer power up.

Was the charger you purchased the exact model number recommended by Asus?

Not necessarily bad advice, but seems a little premature; see Chuck's trouble shooting.

Yes, the charger is the exact same type the laptop was originally shipped with. I also bought it from the Asus website.
That eliminates that an improper charger damaged the computer.

I found a "no notebook powerup" troubleshooting guide on the Asus website. It includes a Hard Reset procedure that may be your last hope of bringing your laptop back to life.
