Computer Slow for No Identifiable Reason

725 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  DaveBurnett
Hello all,
I built a computer about eight months ago now, and as of the last month, I have noticed a significant slowing down of many functions of the PC. Boot up times taking over a minute, over five minutes for all startup programs to open, things like Chrome and even file explorer taking up to 20 seconds to open, programs not responding a little to frequently, and other odd little things like this. Any ideas as to what this could be? My PC specs are in the computer description linked to my account.
Thanks in advance.

I presume you've run the programs in your signature??
I use this: codestuff starter ( http://codestuff.obninsk.ru/products_starter.html ) to monitor start up and running programs/services .
Yes, I run them at least once a month. After messing with Codestuff my boot-up time after I had logged in improved, in that my startup programs opened faster. However, the time it takes to show the login screen from when the BIOS logo disappears is still over 25 seconds. Not a huge deal, just irritating when it used to be about 7 seconds. I do have four hard drives, would this impact the boot-up time?
It could.
The best use of Starter is to look at what services are started. Many you don't need at all, and there are lots that can be set to manual so that they are only fired up when needed.
