Computer seems working constantly without stoping!

The cursor of my computer started to show the blue colored "working in progress" turning circle at all time, about a week ago. I thought that it was because the ipod window opened all the time. I closed all the tabs and windows and restarted (I don't normally turn the computer off when not in use). I ran all the anti-virus program and did some cleaning, but the turning circle is still present at all time.

Can someone tell me what the possibilities to cause this condition?

Thanks

How much RAM on that computer?

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
2- Run the program.
3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.
4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.
6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

For Windows 7 and Vista:

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, disable the UAC and run HijackThis again.

Phantom, I just did Clean Boot. Now the circle disappears. So... what was the problem before, too many start-up programs running? If so... I have not added more start-up programs to run automatically at the start-up; why would it cause the problem? Also, if it was still the problem, all the start-up programs should have finished running after a week, right? LOL Just joking, but seriously why?

Thanks

So.. that means I have to repeat this Clean Boot process...

Phantom, I followed exactly what you suggested me to do, yet I don't really understand what and how Clean Boot was doing. To me (please bear with me, not only do I have a low IQ, but also I am not much of a computer geek...), checking and unchecking some of the functions does not seem doing much or "Clean Booting" much to my computer... However, it does make the running circle go away...

Step 2: Enable half of the services

  1. Follow steps 1a and 1b to start the System Configuration utility.
  2. Click the Services tab, and then click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box.
  3. Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.
  4. Click OK, and then click Restart.
Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Service list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Service list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one service is selected in the Service list, and you still experience the problem, the selected service causes the problem. Go to step 6. If no service causes this problem, go to step 4.

Step 4: Enable half of the Startup items

  1. Perform a clean boot by repeating step 1.
  2. Click the Startup tab, and then click to select half of the check boxes in the Startup Item list.
  3. Click OK, and then click Restart.
Step 5: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Startup Item list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Startup Item list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one startup item is selected in the Startup Item list, and you still experience the problem, the startup item that is selected in the list is the service that is causing the problem. Go to step 6.

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step.

As you can see, there's a lot to do... :D

Being in Clean Boot with everything disabled seems to fix your issue. You must now determine what program or process is causing your computer to constantly be working, with the process of elimination of Services and Startup items.

By the way, you don't need a large IQ to do this. Look at me! :D

Laugh my head off 3 times!!!!!!! Right.... you don't even have a face on your icon, LOL

Funny..... I got you! Yeah, I thought I was done after the first step! yes, I saw the many steps on the link you gave me. I will follow you advice. Even if you don't have a high IQ, at least your help and advice is SWEET  Thanks much... Once everything works fine, I will mark this thread CLOSED.

THANK YOU
