Just realized and removed my message, the instruction don't make sense with that version of Hijackthis.

I'll provide him with your instructuions:

Make sure you save the file to a permanent folder and post a log.

To create a permanent folder click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar click on File, New, Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Put your HijackThis.exe into that folder.

Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

One of the instructors in my computer club said that he gets most of his computer repair calls after the holidays because of all the kids and grandkids that get their hands on their grandparents' computers while they're visiting.

Make sure to post a HijackThis log here, as you've already been instructed to do. You should also do the following:

Go here and download Ad-Aware Personal 1.06 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 from the "Anti-Spyware" list. Install Ad-Aware and then install Spybot. After they've both been installed, run their update function and install all available updates for them. Run a full system scan with Ad-Aware. Once it's done, select and fix everything that it found. Run a scan with Spybot. Once it's done, select and fix everything in red that it found. Restart your computer afterwards. (Note: If your computer has a bad infestation of spyware, Spybot may request to run another scan after restarting. If it does, allow it to do so.)

What is the processor speed and how much RAM is installed?
