I spent the holidays away from high speed internet, but had my laptop with me. It seemed to be running fine the whole time, but then when i got back home to high speed internet, programs (and my computer as a whole) seem to be lagging more than before.

I've been running a defrag nearly every night, so i doubt its related to that (i also have almost 40% free space on every partition). I did not install any new applications that i can recall, and i have run both Panda Active Scan and Trend Micro HouseCall, but neither came back with any results.. One thing i should mention is that i did spend some time at internet cafe's while at home, using unencrypted wi-fi.

Does anyone have any ideas? Would a HJT log be helpful? And my apologies in advance if this is the wrong thread; i couldn't decide where it most belonged.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I'm not an expert but this is the first step you need to take: You need to include a log from HijackThis (HJT). Thanks to Cheeseball81 for this:

Download and Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Once you've posted the log you need to wait for advice from a qualified member as to what to do next. You'll see a gold shield next to their name which shows they are qualified to take you through the next stages. I hope this helps … and good luck!

Richard.

Okay here is my HJT log..

A couple of things to note: there is a difference when running / not running Azeurus, but it is not the root problem, as my computer is still slow without it running. Also, i'm not sure what the Microsoft IE links are for, as i don't use IE at all.

And one thing i just remembered was recently installed is the Canon utilities; would stopping this process from running make a difference, or is there something else in this log file that is more relevant?

Cheers
