Hi guys,

my brother showed this board to me and i have a question for you....

Today, my comptuer didn't restart once, not twice, but THREE times! I didn't do anything to it...the first two times I was typing a message, and clicking links (I only had 2 windows open the first time, the second time I had Word and another window open, so again, only 2 screens).

The third time the computer shutdown and restarted was when the screen saver was on, I moved the mouse, and then it went! Restarting again...

Is something wrong with my computer? It's brand new! I bought it in the middle of January...If it helps, it's an E-Machine.

Thank you,

John

Well if computers restart for no apparent reason then it is usually a RAM or software conflict.
Go into start >control panel >administrative tools >eventlog
this lists everything that goes on if it was bad then a red X appears double click it and read up on it or follow the link provided.
If you don't get a responce that satisfies you then try to post the error here and maybe someone can reply to it.

My biggest question is: Did you install any new software outside of what came with it?

Have you downloaded or installed a lot of stuff since you bought the computer? RAM occasionally is a problem but most likely as "Snappy 31" has posted it wil be a software conflict. May I suggest using System Restore?

Hi again,

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I haven't downloaded a lot of programs. All I have is winmx, mirc, and song files. I also installed the 2004 edition of Norton and Microsoft Office 2000. I also use the things that came with the computer, such as yahoo, aol, and icq.

Let's see if it is hardware or software. Restart the computer in safe mode; does the problem still occur? If so then it is a hardware problem. If it does not reboot in safe mode, you most likely have a software / tsr / driver problem.

Have you checked for overheating yet? Run with the side cover off; see if your problem stops. If it does, then you have an overheating problem.

Run the spybot / ad-aware programs with updates. See what it finds.

I searched the activity log of my Virus scanner (norton) and it has

Adware.Binet

listed a few times and it says "delete failed."

Would that have anything to do with it? The source says "auwkubttod.dll"

Thanks again.
