Hey all,

Its been a while since I posted on these forums and I got some great help before which did help but more problems have started occuring and I am hoping someone can shed some light.

Previously my computer was crashing a lot like a complete lockup the only way to resolve was to press the reset button. Some help from u guys stopped this for a couple of days but it started to occur again quickly. Then one of my friends recommended me to get a program called detonator destroyer for geforce cards which totally wipes your old drivers, and he refered me to the most stable drivers he used when he had the same gfx card as me. This seemed to work perfectly and for about a week the computer worked 100% but now it is occuring again and worse than ever. Also the crashes would previously occur at any time no matter what the comp was being used for. Now it only ever crashes while playing the game Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

I was told to reinstall direct x and run the diagnostic tool, and when I tried to do some tests in direct x i got a blue screen error and dxdiag closed itself.

My computer specs are:

AMD Duron 1.1gig
256MB DDR RAM
GeForce 2MMX 64mb
20gig HD (about 50% full)

Again I have noticed quite a high temperature for my cpu apparently about 50-60 degrees C at startup, which may or may not be of use.

Hoping you guys can help, thanks in advance.

Go to http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ or http://lurkhere.com/~nicefiles and download HiJackThis. Use Winzip to unzip it, then install and run it.

NOTE: HiJackThis.exe file SHOULD be installed in it's own folder. Before downloading create a folder and name it HiJackThis then d/l HiJackThis to that folder. To run double-click the HiJackThis.exe file.

The reason for it's own folder is because HiJackThis will create not only log files, but a backup of whatever it removes so you can restore if necessary. If you d/l HiJackThis to your desktop and run it from there you will have log and backup files scattered all over your desktop.

To run, click the "Scan" button. When it's done the "Scan" button changes to "Save Log". Save the log file it creates (it should open in Notepad at that point). Copy and paste the results in your next post. Most of what it finds is harmless, so do not do anything yet. Someone will be glad to help you sort out any of the not so good items that may be in there.

IF you get an error saying msvbvm60.dll is missing,
Download and run the MS visual basic 6.0 runtime files

OK, for the Windows XP system, there are a few bugs in there so lets start with an online virus scan.

Disable SYSTEM RESTORE :

How to disable or enable System Restore in Windows XP

I would strongly recommend that you do an online virus scan at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites:

http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

RE-ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE and create a NEW restore point

Next, click on the link below and it will download CWShredder. Close all browser windows,UnZip the file, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Download from one of the following sites:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
http://spychecker.com/program/coolwebshredder.html
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html
http://www.sherrylynn.us/CWShredder.exe

REBOOT after you finish.

Next, download both Ad-Aware and SpyBot, update and run them. Fix accordingly.

You have used both on your own system, but if you need any addidional info on either one let me know.

Once all of the above are done Reboot and run a fresh HJT scan and post it.

Thanks.

OK, lets take the trojan related files first.

Info on this trojan can be found at
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojcrypterc.html

In Hijack This, check ALL of the following items. Double check so as to be sure not to miss a single one.
Next, close all browser Windows, and have HT fix all checked.

F1 - win.ini: run=c:\windows\system32\netdll32.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Spool Services] ssvcc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Vid32cntl] c:\windows\system32\vid32cntl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Netdll32] c:\windows\system32\netdll32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Spool Services] ssvcc.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Un32info] c:\windows\system32\un32info.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Pwr32ctr] c:\windows\system32\pwr32ctr.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Kbddrv32] c:\windows\system32\kbddrv32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Netdll32] c:\windows\system32\netdll32.exe

IF you are running ME or XP Disable SYSTEM RESTORE : How to disable or enable System Restore in Windows ME

How to disable or enable System Restore in Windows XP

Next reboot into Safe Mode and remove the following files and folders that are bolded

c:\windows\system32\vid32cntl.exe
c:\windows\system32\netdll32.exe
c:\windows\system32\ssvcc.exe

c:\windows\system32\un32info.exe
c:\windows\system32\pwr32ctr.exe
c:\windows\system32\kbddrv32.exe
c:\windows\system32\netdll32.exe

See here http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406 for how to start in safe mode if you don't know how.

Reboot into normal mode.

Before you re-enable system restore I would strongly recommend that you do an online virus scan at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites:

http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

RE-ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE and create a NEW restore point

Now download Spybot - Search & Destroy (if you haven't got the program installed already)

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove/fix all it finds that are in RED

Reboot

Last, run HJT again and post your log again to see if anything was missed.

Thanks

Additional items that are not needed at start-up. With comments

In Hijack This, check ALL of the following items. Double check so as to be sure not to miss a single one.

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE NvQTwk,NvCplDaemon initialize

IS this system overclocked? IF NOT, this is not needed in the start-ups

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" ?atboottime

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

MSN Messenger utility. If you don't use MSN Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to MS Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts"

O4 - Global Startup: CorrectConnect.lnk = C:\Program Files\CConnect\CConnect.exe

Broadband ISP diagnostic tool - as used by NTL and Cox Communications. Shortcut available. Doesn't have to be run at startup.
