It could be the hard drive or a fan for the CPU or power supply.

A shop should charge you no more than $60 to check it out or maybe you could find a friend or co-worker to listen to it for free.

What kind of hardware problem?? I don't have money to take it to a shop
How long has it been since you cleaned the inside of the computer? dust probably has built over the fan holes in the case, on the CPU fan , video card and on the motherboard itself. This will cuase poor airflow and cooling.
Some people recommend buying a can of compressed air and blowing out the computer.
(always make sure you unplug the computer for no less then 10 minutes before opening)

This is the best way to clean the computer but need to follow direction.
1. Unplug computer, let sit for awhile. For this procedure I recommend several hours.
2. open case,
3. Buy a can of PCB cleaner (printed circuit board) you can get this at Radio Shack or a similar store. should be around $10 (unplug the computer before you go to the store and by the time you get home it should be ready)
4. start from the top and start spraying, make sure you get the CPU heatsink, all fans and video card really well sprayed. (case fans as well)

This stuff evaporates almost immediately but don't try turning it on right away. Let the computer sit for a few hours just to insure its all evaporated. Now your computer will look almost brand new inside. (I recommend let sitting overnight while you sleep)

This is absolutely safe to do if you follow the directions I just listed.

This may keep you from having to take the computer to the shop.
