i have a new computer (2.17 ghz, 512 ram, amd athlong xp 3000+).. new version of windows xp with current updates.

everytime i go to open a folder with pictures in it that (the folder size) is over about 22 MB or so.. the screen freezes.. then after about 10 seconds... everything is cleared and its like i restarted.. but without rebooting.

i dont understand whats wrong. at this point i have tons of folders differently named JUST because i cant get over that 22 MB size.

do i have some kind of setting wrong?

Does it act the same in all the View modes: thumbnails, details, etc?
Also this may help:
Click on Start
Select Control Panel
Select Performance and Maintenance
Select System
Select Advanced Tab
Under Performance, select the Settings button
Select Visual Effects Tab
Select "Adjust for best performance."
Select the Ok button
