I can't get Win 98 to load, it freezes at the splash screen. I've tried several things to get it to come up to no avail. So I've decided to reformat, but when I boot up with the start up disk it freezes at the A prompt, and sometimes before it gets to the A prompt. Any ideas or suggestions?

Wow. That's quite a problem you've got there. So you've tried to reformat, but it freezes at the a: prompt.

First thing I would do is unplug all your peripherals, everything except the keyboard. Then try and reboot. If that doesn't work, see if you can even get into BIOS.

On a side note, Windows98 is and 8 year old OS, and not a very good one at that. I would certainly encourage moving to XP, or Windows2000 at least. Protected memory space and not getting illegal operations and constantly having to reboot is very worth it.

I figured it out. My hd was bad. I used another hd and it worked fine. Thanks for replying though. I'm not sure how to mark this as solved though.
