Computer fails to boot, fan and LED lights respond...

Basically, my friend and I are working on a custom PC build, we just plugged in the power supply today, and to our utter dismay, it failed to boot. Whenever we click on the button to turn on the computer, the fan and LED lights seem to get power, but fail to hold it... At most, they probably hold it for a split second, and then lose power. I was wondering if anybody out here had any tips for us, or any suggestions to things we might try, in order to boot the computer up successfully.

  • Intel Core i5 4590
  • Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition
  • 1TB of Space, WD
  • Corsair CX600
  • GTX970

Thank you in advance!

First thing I would check is if you have the stand-offs between the case and the motherboard in the correct places so there is no chance of a short circuit.

Then check the ram stick(s) and Graphics card are fully into their connectors. The 2 side catches on each ram socket should snap into place when the ram is all the way in.

Also check that all the necessary power plugs are correctly connected too.
Have you read the guide at the top of the forum for problem builds? If not, do so. If you follow ALL of the steps, you will find the cause of your problem.

Some common errors for new builders;
1 8pin aux pw connector not installed
2 Motherboard shorting to the case due to incorrect stand-offs
3 Incorrect install of the cooler. Intel type coolers can be a pain for a new builder

One other word of advise. The cx line from corsair is for a basic build ONLY, it is not intended for use in a gaming system. The only corsair pw supplies that should be used in a system that is stressed ie gaming, overclocking or other stressful use are the AX, HX or RM models.

Thanks for the help, but we got it working.

What was the problem?

To be honest, I personally don't know... We had the problem last night when I was over at his house, but this morning, he just told me that it worked out... He said that it had to do with one of the connections, and the fact that we couldn't access the BIOS using his current keyboard...
