Computer Disabled Because Of Windows Installer Box

No matter what I do "Windows Installer Box" appears upon booting up and will freeze all other functions. Happens in normal or safe mode. Need to retrieve some documents or I would just let it go. What is the answer?

Box does'nt say it is trying to install anything. If I hit cancel, it grays out and freezes everything else. Tried running msconfig but as soon as I hit OK, the box appears.

There has to be a solution.

Looks like you've had this problem awhile. You might end up doing a reformat. If you hook your hard drive up as a slave on another system are you able to get the files you need?

The hard drive with the problem has Windows 2000 Pro and my other one has Windows XP. Will they communicate with one another if they are hooked together?
