I have been using Norton A'Virus and scan pc every night..
over the last several months, have had 1 'adware' item show up each morning, once scan completed.. system was unable to repair/quarantine/delete the file..

2 mornings ago, there were 6 items listed on the log..
now, several of my programs will not run.. [pop up; norton anti-virus; weather bug; etc..]

there is a foreground window which has the following message:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC SHARED\ccAPP.exe (or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

can anyone advise what my problem is now, and what I can do?

First burn Norton In ure backgarden note how much faster your pc is

Heres a list of scanners that should always work fine and find and fix most problems.

Avg Free
Avg Anti-SPyware
Ad-Aware se personal
Spybot Search and Destroy
Vundofix
SmitfraudFix

Spyware Doctor (not free)

Hijack this ( Post your log DO NOT fix anything once scanned since some are vital for your pc, report the list and let the moderators examine it)

Safe mode is always better to scan.

Before scanning go to My computer, tools, Folder Options, View, Show hidden files and folders <<<< make sure that is checked, update all and scan.

if you haven't got anything sensible to say then don't say it

go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.
Click on the entry in start menu or on the desktop to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

then

  • Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click " Configure Scan Options"
  • Select " Run Add ONs" and then select ALL the options in the box below it, Press Apply
  • Now Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
    • Reboot back to Normal Mode!
    • Go to the WinPFind folder
    • Locate WinPFind.txt
    • Place those results in the next post!. It will be too big to post so you will need to attach it to your reply

yes and i'll think you'll also find many people don't like or use norton, there are plenty of free scanners that will do just the same job as norton I was trying to help him free up his cpu usage so he can work through faster.

Many people also purchase Norton or upgrade online, they don't have a CD to reinstall with- and they often do not realize to keep the download on the hard drive...if you have them dump their program, they are out some money- do you want them upset at you if that happens? Or do you want them upset at Norton, or TSG?
Though you may see someone here post negative things about Norton products or it is a current attitude to carry around > we should try to respect what folks have spent money on and try to advise them so that they are aware of the consequences if they decide to act on any advice anyone gives.
The many posts you see anyplace about problems with Norton programs are only the ones WITH problems- you arent hearing from the millions of users who are not having any!
