My system:
Win XP Pro/ Win 2k Pro/ Mandrake 9.2
The problems:
1. Every time I click on a file folder a search window appears instead of opening the file. (Main problem pissing me off) I've tried to fix this problems in the file extension configuration will no avail.
2. I get a weird access denied message when I boot into Win 2K to try and access files from my XP installation. However, I can access any file perfectly from Knoppix bootable linux. (This one pisses me off too) This also was happening with certain directories when accessed through win xp but now i lost that option! read on
3. For some reason my first bootloader which boots linux has disappeared, but the second one which allows me to choose between xp and 2K is still there.
4. Upon booting Win Xp my computer locks up at the blue screen with the RDR filesystem error. I've already read the other posts about this and I don't know why this happened.
5. I tried doing a Win Xp repair with 3 different xp cds and 2 different drives. Every repair fails (does not complete anything beyond initial phase) and when xp boots the blue screen is back.
6. I tried booting into safemode and the bluescreen still appears.
7. I tried doing a "restore last good" and the bluescreen still appears.
This sucks!
I know a lot of pc repair, but I need other opinions and advice.
Here is what I plan to do if all else fails:
Do an in-place windows xp installation by keeping the partition intact and overwriting the windows directory. I suspect some corrupted win file or setting is causing most of the issues.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I will continue to work on this thing and post as I figure this out.
