I take a lot of digital photos which I store in folders in "My Pictures" in "My Documents" in Windows XP. After over a year of doing this with no problems I can still open folders OK to view the photos in any of the folders and to delete them if required but as soon as I then close the folder the computer freezes.
All I can do is to turn off the computer and then reboot. I have tried Ctl,Alt,Delete but whilst a list of the running processes comes up nothing seems to be using CPU except System Idle Process. Has anybody any ideas as to what is causing this to happen. Thanks. Roger

How big are these folders?

How much Ram do you have in that PC.
The size of the folders vary from just a few photos but one folder has 173 photos and the folder size is 573MB. I have 512 MB of Installed Memory.
However I also have many hundreds of photos stored in FotoStation, the software that came with my camera, and I never get any problems opening and closing that programme so I don't think it can be the size that is the problem. It is also only recently I have been gettting the freezes. I thought it started when I put a "shortcut" on the deskstop to go direct to "My Pictures" rather than first having to open "My Documents". However I deleted this shortcut and the computer still freezes.
It only freezes after I close "My Pictures" though. Roger

I read the article "Computer Freeze Answers" advertised at the head of this Forum and then bought Registry Patrol. I ran a scan and then fixed all the errors. Result my computer does not freeze anymore. Roger

I spoke too soon I am afraid, Registry Patrol did not do the trick although it "corrected" many faults. I discovered that it was only when I actually deleted some photographs that the computer was freezing when I closed the folder. I then realised it must be something to do with my Recycle Bin which got me thinking. In the February edition of Computer Shopper which I bought, the free DVD which came with it included Steganos Security Suite which I loaded on to my computer as it looked worth having. My problems with freezing started soon after and lo and behold when I uninstalled this programme no further problems with freezing when I deleted any photographs. I will keep my fingers crossed a bit longer though, just in case!!!. Roger
