Cloning a 1TB Crucial hard drive using Acronis True Image
It shows partition 4 of 6, estimated time left: 6h 29mins remaining
It has been showing this the last 2 hours.
Should I restart the cloning?

No! Be patient.

I imaged (not the same as cloning) four Windows 7 computers on Thursday. Three went fairly well. (perhaps 20 minutes to 60 minutes) For some reason the last one which is only a 250 GB hd seemed to take forever. It showed 4 hours and remained at that for a very long time. I picked up the portable hd because I thought perhaps it died but the light was on. Eventually it moved to 3 hours and I waited and waited and waited.

It took close to 4 hours just for a partition on a 250GB hd to be imaged.

What is the difference between imaging & cloning?
I use Acronis True Image.
Does it clone or Image?
I want to replace a 1TB HDD wjth a 1TB SSD.
Do I image or do I clone, so that I get the exact same programs/data?
Thank you.

I have a WIN 7 desktop with a 1TB Hardrive that shows "caution"
I get frequent blue screens
I bought a Crucial 1TB SSD to replace the 1TB HDD.
Do I clone/Image?
I have Acronis True Image software.
Will the issues of the HDD transfer to the SSD?
What is the best method to replace a HDD going bad with a new SSD?
Thank you.

First of all I would suggest you to backup your files before its too late if you haven't done so.
You can still clone your HDD to an SSD but not sure if you will get the errors too. The only method to do is try it out. If you encounter errors during the cloning I would just prefer to do a clean install, but that is up to you to decide.

If it is taking that long, my experience has been that the source HDD is going south. You'd best do something quickly!

I am trying to clone for a 2nd time as I type.
It seems that the cloning is doing better this time.
The bar is moving to the right, the time clock is changing
Good signs
Question,
I have a program that I can no longer buy or find anywhere, WIN 7, failing HDD.
How do I take the program from the failing HDD & install it in a WIN10 computer with a good SSD?
Thank you

First thing, get rid of McAfee, this should remove the one in the center of the screen.
Then the check the Notifications setting to turn OFF all of McAfee, this will turn off the one in lower right corner.

Once you remove McAfee, make sure that Defender that is part of Windows 10 is started.

McAfee is one of those programs that will install with other programs (like Adobe Reader) if you don't opt out by unchecking a box during installation. Don't use program's automatic installation, I always use the Custom option and keep my eyes open for just this sort of thing. They can be sneaky!

If you continue having problems cloning your HDD I would just suggest to make a fresh install of Windows 7 into your computer. Make sure to change the HDD to your new SSD. I am not sure if you may have the disc available when you bought your computer. You will be needing your activation key too.
If you don't have W7 disc you can still download Windows 10 and install it. Follow on screen instructions. Here is the site to download it: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
When done install any updates to your computer.

So,
I go to another computer (this computer has already a WIN10), I download WIN 10 somewhere on this computer (where do I store the new WIN10?)
I create a bootable USB with WIN10 in the USB
I install the new SSD in the computer & the bootable USB,
I turn on the computer & the USB downloads WIN10 in the new SSD.

There is no "best" way. Depends on what you want to accomplish.

For most people in most situations I think that simply formatting the relative partition(s) is sufficient.

If you are worried about somebody recovering files and getting sensitive information there are utilities that will overwrite the data one or multiple times. I haven't looked for any in many years so I can't advise on free or for-pay ones.

And, if you're really paranoid physically destroying the hard drive (or SSD) is pretty good.

I get a pop-up in the middle of the screen.
It comes from the app store by fast
It is fa_rss.exe
I cannot figure out how to remove it
I used the Geek squad to remove it
It came right back after they assured me that they removed it.
Go figure
