My clock has stopped updating automatically. In the internet update tab I get "An error ocurred getting the status of the last synchronisation. The RPC server is unavailable."

Before you ask:
I only have Windows Firewall and I've even tried it with it off. The displayed time is almost correct so that isn't the problem. My Laptop, using the same internet connection, doesn't have the problem.

Has anyone any ideas?

I found that Windows Time was not running but in trying to start it I got error 1058. I jumped through all the hoops, via Google, all to no avail. I was getting desparate.

In attempting to solve this problem I did a system restore to the oldest available date, which was only 24 Nov. in fact as I had had to reverse clone my HDD from the spare because of another problem on that date. It didn't help so I "undid" the restore. AVG then updated itself, Windows told me updates were ready (this happens, it starts to download and then gives up because it finds that they're already there, then it starts to install them and it's instantly over because they're already there! grr.......). I went to look at the internet time tab ....... and ........ lo and behold ........ it was all functioning again. Then AVG said it was way out of date, downloaded one tiny file and it's happy again. Internet time is still working.

You know, these PC things will never be a commercial success
