Hi..I wanted to buy an external USB hard drive strictly for storage, so just for holding music and video files etc, no programs. Which is the better option for me then, FAT or NFTS? Also, should I have the company that I buy the hard drive from format it for me in FAT or NFTS (for $10) or save myself the money and do it myself, if it's not too complicated? thanks
I use a mix of FAT32 and NTFS partitions.
My OS (WinXP) and My Documents reside on a FAT32 partition where I can recover them from DOS if a problem occurs.
Video Files, Music and Pictures are on a large NTFS Partition so I don't have a problem with file size (especially for video files).
I have windows xp on an ntfs drive, but my 60gb is fat32 which has all my personal files, games, and music. There is 2 partitions on my 60gb, one ntfs for backups so not to have file limitations, and one ntfs for another OS.
Another note: NTFS is nice because it does not require defragging as often
Just bought a new 500 gb external hd & it came with fat32 formatting, all my hd's are ntfs, I thought fat32 was old school. This won't pose a problem will it?
