A friend, a "newbie", recently purchased a new desktop with Windows XP. His ISP is Cox. He set up his e-mail program in Web Mail. Later decided to set up in Outlook Express. When so doing he typed his user name incorrectly -- i.e., inconsistent with what he had set up in Cox Web Mail. Accordingly, after completing the Outlook Express set up when he went he sent his e-mail he got an error message that the server did not recognize the user name. Upon closely reviewing he saw that it did not match exactly his Web Mail user name. So, he contacted Cox and they walked him through removing the old user name and adding the new user name in Outlook Express. Still got the error message. Since then he has Googled changing user name in Outlook Express and avers that he has tried everything but continues to get same error message: user name is not recognized by server, and the error message continues to show the typographical incorrect user name, notwithstanding his having changed. And Cox has quit on him, suggesting that he should contact Microsoft. He is in Atlanta and I in Louisiana, so I can only offer assistance via e-mail.
He is so frustrated that he has asked if there is someway he could just wipe out everything in Outlook Express, start over and hopefully get Outlook Express consonant with Web Mail ... and then live happily ever after.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may help me to help my friend?
Thanks,
Red Boy
