Change "Registered" Window Name

1380 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  LadyLisa
In the Windows 95, 98, ME Forum they explain how to change the "registered" window name: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Then in the Right pane you should see "Registered Owner". Right click on it and select Modify and change it to what you'd like."

However, this doesn't work for me because there is no "Registered Owner" in the right pane of CurrentVersion. I use Windows XP. Any suggestions?

For XP you go to the windows NT folder;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
Make sure you back up the registry first.
There was no "Registered Owner" in the registry in HKey.../WindowsNT/Current Version. Any other suggestion? Also, could you tell me how to back up the registry? Oops. Thanks
Hi drawoh, Welcome to TSG !!
Have you tried this:
Windows NT, 2000 and XP:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]

Modify the strings values of 'RegisteredOwner' and 'RegisteredOrganization' to equal the required owner and company names.

This is what the right pane should look like:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
RegisteredOwner REG_SZ "Joe Bloggs"
RegisteredOrganization REG_SZ "ACME, Inc."

Look here for the registry backup>

drawoh,

follow the link TW56 gave you for instructions on backing up the registry. Personally I always use the first, file>export, and put the copy on my desktop. I always back up the registry before making any changes as one wrong move can mess up your whole system.

The registered owner should be in the right pane of the path you followed, when you get to the 'current version' folder just click on it and it should show you the info.
