My computer freezes up when I put in a blank CDR disk into the drive.

I can play music cd's, and read data cds fine from the drive. However .. Ill reiterate a bit. My computer just locks up when i insert a blank cdr. I have tried several brand new blank disks.

Has anyone every heard of this happening?

PC: Dell Inspiron B130. Ive tried to uninstall the driver, however, upon reboot the driver just automatically reinstalls itself.

OS: Windows 2000

Virus/ad-aware scan ok.

Sony CDRWDVD CRX850E

Thanks!

Yeah... I just tried a new brand of disk. no go. its so unusual. The drive can play dvd movies ok, play music cd's ok, i can view files and folders on other data cd's where i have picures and software exe backups etc.... but when i put in a blank disk... my whole computer just sort of locks up. Like for instance.. I cant close or open a browser window. I can't click on start (your getting the idea by now). However, immediately after i hit the eject button on the player and the drawer opens, everything works fine, and in fact whatever i clicked on before will closes/opens etc. hmm.

the cdrwdvd driver is the lastest from dell for this pc. there are no significant firmware or bios updates at this time either.

thanks for the idea though.

have you tried right clicking on the drive and goto recording and enable recording on this drive? have you tried using hyjack this to make sure there is no spyware on your hdd?

Did you just do the driver? In Device Manger right click on the Drive and unistall it, then re-boot.
