Does anybody know exactly what the numbers 40x10x40 means?

The first should be write, then re-write, then read speeds.

Thats what I thought but was not sure, I have no trouble burning data cds but when I try to convert mp3 or wma to audio and burn the cd it sometimes will skip. I use Windows XP set at 40x should I reduce it to 32x or use a different program?

Yeah whoa… Slow n’ that down should help. I have the newest Windows media player and I let it convert and burn for me. If quality copies is what you desire then don’t go any faster then 12x. Depending on the writers quality or the burning program you use, 12x should be safe. Three yeas ago I would’ve said don’t go any faster than 4x but the writers are getten’ better and better… Since your going to .wav, 12 is good for now. If still having problems after that then slower yet. Remember that only applies to music and cd copying , normal data really doesn’t matter. Try to find a program that you can control the write speed with like Windows media player.

I've found that anything over 16x skips occasionally in my car CD changer, so I burn all my audio CD's at 8x. I suspect that 4x would be even better, but they work well enough for my uses.
