The CD-ROm drive is a Optiarc AD-7203A.

I automatically downloaded a service pack or something or that sort for Windows Vista using the automatic Windows Update. After the computer reboot itself my CD-ROM drive no longer works. I went into the device manager and I got this message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I have used the "check for solutions" button, I have tried to update the drivers, etc. and NOTHING has worked. Someone, please help!

No drivers are needed. Please don't try to install any.

1. Click on "Start" button, the click on "Run".

2. Enter "regedit.exe" and press "Enter".

3. When regedit starts, open up the following key:
{4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}.

4. After clicking on {4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
Click on each of them, press "Delete" key and click "Yes".

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

Use CDGone Variant if the other didn't work or you once had Roxio, but use the other one first.
