i just upgraded to Win XP on my laptop, and now the CD drive won't read any disk i put in it. I tried putting in a hard drive that has win 98 on it, and now it won't work on that either. It's not the bay because the floppy drive still works when i put that in. Could it be something wrong with the CD drive? The laptop is a IBM Thinkpad 770 9549.

Does the BIOS recognize the CD drive?

Do you have all the Windows XP updates from Microsoft and IBM?

i don't think it recognizes the CD drive, but when i go into my computer, it says its there, and when i tried to install the firmware it said theres no CD drive

when you say "upgrade" did you do a clean install of XP or update over W98?

What model of CD does your IBM take? I happen to have a left-over DVD/CD model no. SD-C2302 in my closet. If yours is bad, I'll let this one go pretty cheap.

i'm not sure what model my cd is that i have, but i know that there's several different models it can use. how cheap would you let it go?
