to check PIO vs DMA right click on "my computer" and go to manage. select device manager and click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. right click on primary or secondary channel. go to advanced settings. it tells you there.

hi
i am posting the results fromthe nero cd speed.
please have look at them point out what is the problem.

theoratical speed is 52x but test speds are very low. i think thats why dvd movies are not playing properly. audio and mp3 are working fine.is there any software or setting which might have limited the speed or my drive is near its death.

Your drive is running in PIO mode. I can tell because of the very high cpu usage. This is what you need to do:

right click on "my computer" and select manage.
in the left hand selection column click on device manager.
go down to where it says ide ata/atapi adapters and click the plus next to it.
right click on "primary IDE channel and select uninstall.
do the same with the secondary IDE channel if you have one.
reboot twice and tell me if it is fixed.

Sometimes it happens when it is a scratched cd, but the same solution should work each time.
