Yes, but the fact you are obscuring is the people who went after Clinton were right wing operatives. I've got no problem with left wing hacks like Begala going after Bush, but this is Dan Rather and CBS news. They profess to have ethics and are responsible for reporting news, not creating it. You can rationalize this anyway you want, but what it does is simply add more to the mountain of evidence that the mainstream press is bias against the right and that news reported is bias. Thats why you lefties are always coming up with conspiracy theories because your view of reality is so slanted.linskyjack said:rawmeat---they (the radical right ) were after Clinton as soon as he announced he was running for president. What goes around comes around---your party and people like Karl Rove have created this monster. Don't be so sensitivie.
Actually, the assault on Presidents started with the left going after Nixon, so technically Clinton was payback for that.bassetman said:Payback is a *****!
Actually the assault on the presidents started with Adams.Mulder said:Actually, the assault on Presidents started with the left going after Nixon, so technically Clinton was payback for that.
Well, you are correct that political attacks have been going on for a long time, but there used to be a certain respect or at least boundries that weren't crossed. As an example, it is pretty much common knowledge today that JFK liked to, shall we say, frolick around in and out of the Whitehouse. In those days, reporters would never dream of invading that privacy. Today, that would be all over the news. Additionally, reporters pretty much stayed out of the politicians personal finances and business dealings, etc.--today that stuff is put under a microscope.linskyjack said:Actually the assault on the presidents started with Adams.
Yes, but the press was full of nabobs of negativisms.linskyjack said:I agree with your point about boundries. I can also agree that the nastiness started with Nixon, but remember the times----very chaotic, very rebellious, and of course Agnew and Nixon didn't help things.
Yeah, those journalists were heros alright, there is a museam in Hanoi that gives them their proper due. Yes, Nixon was stupid and power-mad, but he at least knew that when push came to shove, the good of the country took precedence over personal or political party gain. He could have had the impeachment, just like Clinton and probably escaped without being ousted, but that would not have been good for the country. Clinton should have resigned also, but he no such class to act for the good of the country. And please don't play that tired old line about it only being about sex.holy_saiyan1 said:I've always thought that the media was sort of trying to relieve the glory days of Vietnam and Nixon, when journalists were heroes for revealing Nixon's sneakiness and for rallying a vocal and naive generation against the US's actions in Vietnam.
Can you say "midlife crisis," anyone?

March 3, 2005 -- NBC News blamed American officials for a flubbed report Tuesday night claiming the chief judge overseeing the trial of Saddam Hussein had been assassinated by Iraqi gunmen.
"It's very straightforward," an NBC News spokeswoman says. "We got the information from multiple, high-level sources who confirmed the story's accuracy.
"It was wrong, and we corrected it immediately."
With the report, anchor Brian Williams joins the list of major network news stars who have been caught up in broadcasting false information in recent months. [/b
Williams and correspondent Jim Miklaszewski corrected the assassination mistake on the "Nightly News" last night for viewers on the East Coast who were not able to see the initial correction.
"Earlier, there was some confusing reports coming out of Baghdad, and U.S. officials told NBC News and we reported that the initial target of the assassination attempt was Raid Juhi," said Miklaszewski in Tuesday's on-air correction.
Juhi is the chief administration judge who was in fact seen in Saddam Hussein's initial court appearance last July.

I would think they would be able to confirm the story too! They didn't name any of the people who they claim gave them faulty info.bassetman said:Geez, you'd think they'd know better than to take the Admin at it's word!![]()
