I have a new Dell XPSl notebook. When I go to the MS download site for an ugrade or new download I am asked to validate my windows software. My Windows XP Media software is genuine and came pre-loaded from Dell. It will not validate. The Active X controls work in all other circumstances but not for validating Windows. I have tried resetting my Security settings but nothing works. I have tried removing my virus protection and all spyware apps but still no success. I have turned off pop up blocker and phishing filters also. Any other things I could try would be appreciated. I have worked on this for weeks.

Thanks,
Larry

Call Dell. Tell them the problem, and tell them to fix it. With all pop-up blockers turned off, I don't see any reason why it wont validate, unless your system has a problem. If it's new, and you have not played with the install too much, it should be ok.

Meanwhile, to try to help, try THIS, the WGA diagnostic tool. Just follow the directions. Once done, go HERE and copy/paste the results in the first forum (XP). A specialist will look at them and help you out.

Since all 4 computers in my house have this same "windows validation" problem I decided the fault is not in my computer or computers. And since I don't have the problem when I switch from high speed RoadRunner wireless service to dial-up I decided to try using high speed wireless at the local "Pantera Bread" restaurant using their high speed wireless. I found that I had no problem validating windows on their service. The problem is with RoadRunner but their technicians don't know how that's possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks
