When I click on my desktop file folder icon... (C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop)...it goes into search mode instead of opening...when I right click the icon the first three prompts are search, open, explore...why does it search and not open?...how do I change this to open?...

Does the problem occurs in safe mode?

Try running: SFC /SCANNOW

If that does not do the trick run Tweak UI, which has an Icon Repair.

neither worked...I think it has something to do with the folder options and file type
