Cant open email in Outlook Express-Need this for work!

2191 Views 15 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  somasense
I REALLY hope someone can help me. I cannot view any of my emails in Outlook Express. I need to see some of these things for my job. I have contacted RoadRunner about this and they checked some things and said it is not a problem on their end. They did direct me to a Microsoft web page that basically told me all I needed to do was empty my temporary folder and temporary internet files. This did not work.

I have NAV and my system is clean. I did receive some virus yesterday in my email that was quarantened and deleted. I am constantly getting emails from strangers that are being blocked because of viruses in them. So are a lot of people I know. I am at a loss of what to try next. I do have Spybot and run that constantly. Here is my hijack this log in case that shows anything. Does anyone have any ideas? I really need to get to work.

Thanks in advance
Jennifer

Are you trying to connect to a POP mail server at your ISP or a web based email? Is the account set up correctly in Outlook? Why not just use RR's web based email?
This is a POP server I believe. This was set up for me by Road Runner. The account is set up correctly. I have been using it for 2 years now. I cant imagine what the problem is now. I just know that the cable company who set this up (Road Runner) cant help me. They said it is a microsoft or virus problem. I did what the Microsoft page said to do. Now I am at a loss. Any ideas. I have many emails from my work today that I cannot access and need to read.

Jennifer
Can anyone help please?

If you do not want i--search.com as your search engine fix these

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.i--search.com/ie/

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.i--search.com/ie/

Otherwise you look fine. What exactly is happening when you try to get mail. Are you being prompted for a password? Does it hang?

I open my Outlook Express and can see who the mail is coming from and the subject line. Then down below where I am supposed to see the mail-it is just blank-white. My hourglass just runs and runs and never stops.

Jennifer
Thanks for checking into this. Any ideas?
I was up until 1:00 am with a support person from HP trying to fix this. I have nowhere else to turn. I dont know what else to do. Can anyone here help me? I need to get this working because I have work things in there that need taking care of.

Jennifer :(
I am starting to think that maybe I should just not use OUtlook Express anymore because of the recent problems and vulnerabilities attached to it. Does anyone suggest an alternate safe email system?

Jen
This seems to be the most common way to fix it.
Be sure OE is closed.
Click Start-->Run.
Type: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
Note the space between the 2 and i.
Click OK.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I cant believe how easy that was. I wasted 2 whole days trying to figure this out. It worked in about 2 seconds! I appreciate your help. Big hug for you!!!!

Jennifer
You are welcome, welcome, welcome.

Wow.... Im speechless. I cant believe that was all I needed. That was awesome.
I'm... in... shock
I have the problem you described, and I want to get i--search out of the registry and off of my computer. I am new to using the registry, and when you say 'fix' what do I replace in these data values, please?

Thanks!

tools/options/security

it defaults to removing access to attachments that it feels are questionable if opened or saved if the box is checked, just remove the check mark.
I have two problems, one with OE and one with IE that seem to be related to www.i--share.com showing up in my registry....

(1) As Jmassa describes, when I open my Outlook Express and can see who the mail is coming from and the subject line. Then down below where I am supposed to see the mail-it is just blank-white. My hourglass just runs and runs and never stops.
***I tried the fix that SEKIRT suggested, to run regsvr32 inetcomm.dll with OE closed. I do that, and OE opens again, beautifully, with messages displaying great UNTIL...I shut my computer down. Once I shut down and restart (I do that a lot, as I use a laptop and travel), then the OE problem comes back. AAAAACK!

(2) And, with IE, when I start up, I find that I have a weird search browser appearing. This looks like it is from www.i--share.com.
***I did what GRINLER suggested, and changed my registries. That works really well, too...UNTIL I SHUT DOWN MY COMPUTER. When I restart, the problem returns.

AAAACK! I have spent like 10 hours working on this. Please, can anyone tell me what I need to do to make these changes permanent? Could there be some default in my registry making the changes go away after I shut down? I'm such a beginner at things like registries, and I am utterly upset at the giant waste of time this has been.

I would be very appreciative of some guidance about how to:
(1) make the regsvr32 inetcomm.dll change continue, even when I restart the computer
(2) make the registry changes, to eliminate www.i--share.com from my OE, continue, even when I restart the computer.

All help is welcome!
Thanks,
Soma
