Would someone be able to help me? I don't know where to begin to solve this error in software that is preventing a log onto windows XP Home. After inserting an install CD for Barricade firewall, I realized by the time it was too late, that the firewall was already up and running on the network and didn't need to be installed on the new computer I just bought and was adding to the network (AMD 64 Zillion FX). The install didn't finish at the last step anyway, but there was no cancel button, thus the problems began. The 1st message referred me to Utilities, but I couldn't read it as it flashed off the screen to fast. Then, came a warning to shut down because of software error. On reboot, it won't login, but instead tells me "to report this to my support person: invalid boot ini file, windows could not start because of an error in software, load needed DLLs for Kernel." After trying Safe Mode to log on and get rid of the Barricade Firewall mess, the details came up with "/ntoskrrl.exe" on the end of a string of disk info for /winsyst32/. On the end of another line, "/hal.dll," and on the end of the 3rd line, "/KDcom.DLL."
Any way, XP has an activated firewall, so no need for another in this case. What a snafu, right off the bat. Windows doesn't seem user friendly enough to inform me how to solve this problem. Thanks to PC magazine for the info on F8, previousely working whichamacallit and safe mode. Would appreciate, however, details specific to my problem inorder to solve it.
