Can't log into Dell laptop that I forgot password for

Hi, I have Dell laptop that I forgot the password for. I went and updated the password for the email account that I use to log into the MS online account. But when I use the new password to try to login into the laptop I get this error message: your device is offline. Please sign in with the last password used on this device. The device is connected to the internet.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Hey, yes, I believe that is the method I've been trying...

Reboot your router and see if you encounter the same error message. Often, it comes down to there being no Internet connectivity to the computer. Rebooting the router fixes the problem in many cases. This is especially true if other devices can connect to the Internet through the router.
I tried this but I'm stuck in a loop of resetting password.

I can try this but it seems to be connected to the wire

Shouldn't I be able to plug into the ethernet? The wireless seems ok it. I will try ethernet.
I wonder if it's possible to reset from another computer?
Thank you so much but I have fixed it by factory reset. I loosely followed the directions here:

I just kept trying Shift + Restart on the sign in screen till I got the blue screens where it let me factory reset it.

I won't be using MS logins anymore after the drama of getting locked out. I went back to just a user name and password. I don't know what the difference is.
The difference is that you need an MS Account to use some Windows Apps and go to the MS Store.

Thanks for letting me know the difference.
This might be good for you
