Just got a new computer with XP Pro. Tried runnning Windows Update, but it won't let me download the Service Releases and/or critial updates. They download and then I receive a message saying that the programs have not passed MS logo testing (or something like that) -- seems to be failing the security test...

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have a bogus Windows Key code, because that’s what the Windows update will do if it is.
