Can't install COM3

I have an internal modem (LT Win) in my Dell 5000e, running W2k. It's installed on COM3... but my device manager doesn't list COM3. So I have tried to install COM3, but unsucessfully. It tries to install a COM4 (after installation, shows up in the Device Manager with a yellow exclamation). Why can't I install COM3?

A LT Modem is not a real modem. You need software to drive it, which is compatible with the OS you are using.
