Can't install a modem in XP

710 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Panaya
I upgraded to XP-pro from 2000. When I went to use my dial-up, I found that no modem was installed. So I tried to install it and received this error message:
'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.'
I also discovered that the installation ISScript.Msi is missing.

Any ideas?

Hiya and welcome

Can you tell us the name of your modem? It may need upgraded drivers.

Thanks Eddie.

It's a Creative modem. I had the upgraded drivers.

I went ahead and did a clean install of XP. The modem installed perfectly. I've also noticed many features unavailable on the upgrade. Now I just have the painful process of re-installing, customizing, re-configuring........:(
Hiya

I've had a little scour around and somebody used a Windows Installer Cleanup Utility by Microsoft to do it.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q238413

It may remove a key in the registry. The one I think it removes is this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\799411B8369C3D11BBD
A000CF495697A]

The reason why?

But try the program first.
