I've been hijacked. AVG doesn't find any bug. Tried for three weeks now to download the ME patch KB832894, which I'm hoping closes hijacker's holes. For about a week, I'm finding rejected emails I never sent to addresses I don't know. For a number of days wasn't even able to download the AVG update, but yesterday did succeed in that. Today, still can't download from Microsoft Windows Update site.

Are these two things (bounced emails, and inability to download patch) related? If I do nothing, will this traffic stop? Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Do you have a firewall interfering? I have to turn Norton off in order to do an update.
Don't have firewall. Would like to, but don't know which one to buy. Am using free AVG (Grisoft), just because it's convenient. Still don't know why Microsoft Windows Update packs won't download. Weird! I've downloaded from that site in the past.

go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HijackThis.exe and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
