Can't Change Boot Order - HP Laptop

Hello, I’m looking for some tech help with my HP laptop (15t-dw200). I’m having a problem changing the boot order in the BIOS to select my new hard drive as the primary boot drive.

I installed a new Samsung 970 EVO Plus (NVMe) M.2 500GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and made a clone of the 1TB Western Digital Hard Disk Drive (HDD) using Macrium Reflect software (version 8). The partitions all seem to have copied correctly and I am able to boot from the SSD by choosing it in Boot Options in the BIOS (computer is currently running Windows 10 from the SSD).

I can see both the HDD and the SSD in Boot Order, with the HDD listed first. I can swap the order they are listed in, but when I hit enter to select the new boot order all the computer will do is beep at me. I’m stuck there unless l hit escape, which of course means the order hasn’t been changed and I’m still booting to the HDD.

I’m a newbie, and get edgy when I have to go into the BIOS, so I’m sure that it’s something simple that I’ve missed. I’ve looked through the TechGuy forums and various internet searches, but haven’t found an answer. Anyone out there know where I’ve gone wrong?

Appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Where you were trying to change the boot order, did it say something about boot priority? That should be where the order is changed. You should move the M.2 to the top, then save and exit. I don't have an HP, so I'm flying blind here ...

Thanks for the reply. I don't recall seeing anything about boot priority. Agree the M.2 should be on top, but I can't get to the 'save' without hitting ESC. The HP BIOS is not very user friendly and pretty basic from others that I've see in YouTube videos.

Yeah, HP, Dell, etc., are not as flexible in their settings. They want to keep your options simple so that the simple people they've got doing their support can understand it, and most users can do things that would incapacitate the system.

Take another look around, there may be multiple locations where the drives are listed. Be sure to look for boot priority or boot order and probably use up/down arrows or page up/page down, or whatever they want.

Can you post a picture of the page you were trying to use?

What happens if you hit F10 to save.
I agree with Gr3iz a photo will help
The user manual and the maintenance manual both have no bios setting information
Are yu using f10 to enter the bios?

Thanks for the response. Yes, hitting F10 to enter bios. I didn't try hitting F10 to save, there's a menu for exiting that I've always used.
I'll work on getting a picture, but probably won't happen until sometime tomorrow.
I can't find anything about the bios online either. It's not user friendly, especially for someone who has a rudimentary understanding of how to use it.

Once you change the ssd to the top
Press f10
What happens
What happens is... YOU'VE FIXED IT!!! I knew it was something simple that I was missing. I swapped the position of the two drives in the boot order using the F6 and F5 keys, hit F10, and it accepted the change. I saved the settings and rebooted and it booted from the SSD. I did another reboot and it booted from the SSD again. THANK YOU! Shame there's nothing that says hit F10 to accept changes. Really appreciate your help. I think this one gets marked as solved.
