You will need to reinstall XP from the CD or run the Recovery Console from the CD. You deleted your boot files when you formatted the 2000 partition.

If you have no CD-ROM, you will need to get one that belongs to the laptop (an external will only boot if it is supported by your BIOS), or you will need to put it in another machine, with an adapter if it is not an identical machine.

It is possible that you may be able to boot from this floppy:

XP Sysboot:

http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/xpprobt.exe (bootable floppy)
http://users.adelphia.net/~abraxas/dl/xpprobt.iso (bootable CD image)

or try booting with that floppy after installing this boot manager to your hard drive and using it to boot with the XP sysboot floppy in the drive:

How would formatting the drive help? If you have no way of reinstalling an operating system, you would be left with a blank drive.

If you have a method of reinstalling, you could use it to effect a repair.

well its saying windows was installed on drive C, however you isntalled your xp on drive D. see if you can reassign the drive letters or swap the IDE (HEY I REMEMBERED WAHT TEH CABLES ARE CALLED!) cables within the laptop.

If you have no CD-ROM, how did you install 2000 and XP to begin with?
