30 days ago I installd windows home edition on a lap top that is registered to Office XP because it crashed and I could not find the Office XP disc. I never registered it and it is now locked up with the windows thing demanding that I register it. However, I have now found the Office XP disc. When I try to boot from that disc it doesnt work. It takes me to a screen with choices of Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ command prompt etc etc. How can I delete the old partition and install Office Xp?

Are you talking about Windows XP? Are you able to boot to your desktop, or are you trying to reinstall? Is it just a problem with Office?

Office XP and Windows XP are two entirely different products. "deleting a partition" is usually part of a *Windows* XP install, not an Office XP install.

All I want to do is reinstall windows and register it. The sticker on the computer is not a windows xp registration code. I know the computer used to run office xp. How can install it?

Office XP runs inside Windows. It is a Windows program, that's all.

Why do you want to reinstall? Are you having virus issues? Those are usually fixable. Also, you might consider trying a Windows XP repair install. You will need the *Windows* XP disc, not the Office XP disc, to do so. If your computer came with restore discs instead, use those. They will have some sort of installer to guide you along the way.

If you aren't comfortable doing this yourself, you may consider having a professional help you out.

_inavacuum_, the other posters have explained everything better than I could, but let me add this: if I replace every instance of "Office XP" in your posts with "Windows XP Pro," your posts have an entirely different meaning and actually make more sense. Is this what you mean--that you installed a different Windows XP and the grace period has expired and now you want to install Windows again?
