Using Windows XP pro Backup (from System Tools) I'm unable to use my CDRW as the media. The 'Choose a place to save your backup' only lets me use floppy (A:\) or a file on HDD (C:\).
When I browse to select CD Drive (D:\) I get this message: The backup file name could not be used "D:\bckp2.bkf" please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access.

I was able to use CD's for backup with this program once before, don't know what's changed

Unfortunately, the Windows Backup utility can't save files directly to a CD-RW drive, as I just found out. I must have done it in 2 steps the first time I tried.

This leads to other questions:

1. If I do this 2 step backup, HDD file first and then copy to CDRW, will I be able to restore from the CDRW copy?

2. I have reloaded Windows from scratch previously but I have never tried a full restore from backup. Is there a way to see if the backup I made will work?
Can I just go through the initial stages without actually doing the restore?

Thanks in advance
