Can't access MSN, MSNBC, any Microsoft sites

978 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  SavvyLady
I'm running 98Me. Recently I started having problems accessing any Microsoft related sites. My puter just hangs up while it's downloading these sites. However, I can access other sites with no problem.
I am also using IE 6.0.

After the puter locks, it goes into a blue screen requesting that I press CTL, ALT, DEL to reboot, however this does not work and I am forced to shut down and restart.

Any suggestions?

Hi Sylmark,

Welcome to the board!

First try this:

Shut down Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Go to Control Panel/Internet, and clear your temporary Internet Files.
Click on Settings/show files, and delete all cookies there.
Now go to the Advanced tab, and click Restore Defaults.
Go to the Security tab, and click restore defaults there as well.

Go to Start/Find/files or folders, and search for a file called HOSTS (not HOSTS.SAM which is a sample file).
If you find it, open it and delete all web page entries.

Then try again.

Good luck,

Tony WinMe doesn't have find/files , instead it has search & I hate it!! is there a way to get back Find/Files like I had in 98?

Hi Savvy,

No, I don't think there is. But why would you want to?
It just looks a little differently, I believe, but doesn't it do exactly the same thing?
Tony... probably... I'm just not used to it...

The function is identical. The menu words have changed.
I tried what you said and I still can't access any MSN sites as well as some other sites. However, I can access some of Favorite sites with no problem.

I am also getting a blue screen error:

VWIN32(05) + 0000206E:OE:0028:C02A4FF6

whenever I try to access these sites, never load and then I do a CTRL,ALT, DEL.

Any suggestions

Did you do what TonyKlein said as well??

How many items do you have in startup?

I think you are losing alot of resources thats why you're getting the blue screen. To find out whats running in the background, ....as well as the things you see next to the clock.... press Ctrl_Alt_Del at the same time ..........once .... see all thats there & make a note of what you don't need. Then go to start/run/type in msconfig & click ok.... then to startip & take the checks from the items you know that you do not need to startup everytime you boot the system ............ then reboot... should help alot.
