Oh... is Me recomended to work with your specs? I'm sure it will but just asking because that may have influence. I think either your controller is damaged or your HD is damaged. Run scan disk on it and the manufactures disk repair to try to fix the damage if there is damage, or if it the controler you will have to replace the controller. Try taking the CD out and boot with the slave HD on the secondary IDE. If it shows up ok then something is worng with your controller, but since the other HD is ok then it might not be the controller. You said you have 3 computers... try the drive in question in another computer and see if it works. Also try it as a slave on another computer. Try it as a master on the Maxtech. If there is damage to the HD than try to repair it right away. If you can't fix it then immediately back up all your data on it in case it crashes soon.

Can't Access A Slave Hard Drive

Okay....here is the problem....the computer in questions (we actually have three here) is a Maxtech with a AMD K6-2 450 mhz processor, 160 mg of RAM, two hard drives (until a week ago, a 3.2 G and a 4.4 G), a IOMEGA Zip CD and a 36X CD.
The other night, the computer restarted it's self. Not totally unusual, though it hadn't done it for quite a while. When it powered back up, it had an error that said the PCI Hard Dist Controller was not functioning. After fighting with it for several days, I've finally got THAT fixed, but now it's saying that the D drive doesn't exist......it has C, E and F.
One time I actually got it to SEE the D drive and it told me that drive was unformatted, and did I want to format it. I said yes and it did that. THen when it restarted, it just isn't there. HOWEVER, when teh computer first powers up, it DOES recognize that there are two hard drives....and in BIOS, it will recognize the drive. Just not in Windows. Now, about 2 mo ago, I DID upgrade to ME from 98.
Can anyone help me?

Sounds a bit like the drive has screwed up ..... to fix it might involve running fdisk from DOS (use a boot disk to get there on ME) and creating partition(s) if none exist. then running format on the correct drive, from the command line again. Windows should now find the blank drive.
Its odd that it doesnt shift the other drives (E and F) down (onto D and E respectively) when it isnt listing a D drive.

How did you fix it? You might want to go to the mobo manufacturer to get an updated HD primary and secondary controller, also check your IRQ's. . . . Thanks everyone....I've tried finding the drive in DOS, but it tells me that it's an "invalid drive " letter.......can't access it at all....but it DOES find the drive when the computer starts.
I THINK, it's the drive it'self....so I guess the next step is finding another drive and hooking it up and seeing if it can access that?
What gets me too, is that the computer hasnt moved the drive letters up.....that kinda tells me that the drive went out.
