I have Windows XP OS. When I click on the paper clip in Outlook Express to open an attachment that says "message5.txt", notepad pops up and there is no text there at all. This has happened several times on both my computers and the e-mails are from the same person. Does the problem lie within my computers or is the sender the problem?

Do you know the person that sent the emails? If these are from an unknown source and you have extensions hidden, it is possible the true extension is a PIF or some other file that is probably a virus. The full filename could be something like this: (message5.txt .PIF)

The messages are from a family member sent from his place of employment. He can read the e-mails just fine, then he forwards them. Everyone he sends them to has the same problem I do.
