Dear all experts, I hope you can help me in this issue. I felt very unhappy....

When I got graduation, I took many photos with my friends, family, etc...

The photos is very valuable for me. I copy all the photo in my PC. I can open them without any problem.

Today, I open them again, I cannot open them!! I have tried the following options...

1. Open it in File Explorer
2. Open it in ACDSee
3. Open it in another notebook PC
4. Move it to my DC
5. Upload to my online album

But I still cannot open the photo again...

I have a folder "Photo" in my harddisk and have different sub-folders under it, just serveral sub-photos contain problem. (meant that I cannot see all photo in the sub-folders contain problem)

On the other hand, I cannot see the exif information in the photo. I sure that the photos havn't contain virus.

I beg you to help me on this issue because the photos is very valuable for me.

Can you try and upload one of the sub-photo files so we can try and open them.

To upload a photo read this:

Go to the message window at the bottom of this page and click "Go Advanced" Scroll down to and click "manage attachments". In the window that appears browse to the folder that has the picture you want to upload, select it and click "upload", click "Close this window" complete your message and submit reply.

If you haven't already used the camera card to take more pics, don't use it any further. You may have transfered them recently, or the card/camera has been well used since - you don't say. If not used since, you may have the option of recovering them once again from the card, even if you deleted them from the card after transfering them to your computer.

Thanks for you all reply. I really think that you all guys are very friendly and helpful.

1. When I open it by using ACDSee, the program show a blank screen. When I click on the "Properties" on the file, I can't see any exif information for the photo.

2. I have used the card/camera many times and also ok. Besides, I sure that I can view the photo on my PC before.

3. Attached please find a sample of the photo (a zip file, a photo in one of the problem sub-folders). If it really destory by virus, how can I rescue them?

Frankly speaking, I really don't know how I generate such problem. The pictures is really important and valuable to me, so please help me, thanks.

I can't open that JPEG. It must be corrupted in some manner. There are some JPEG repair programs available. Have you looked into any of those?
Thanks DoubleHelix

I have tried several but seem not work very well.

I'm having a similar problem. I took some pictures on vacation and transferred them to our laptop as we went. When I got home I noticed that I couldn't get thumbnails for some images. I couldn't open them in Photoshop either. About 20% of my vacation images have this problem. I've been looking for a solution for a while because I'd like to get my pictures back.

Here are some details:

OS: Windows XP Home (sp1 + critical updates)
Error (from Paint): Access to x was denied.
Error (from Photoshop): Could not open x because the file is locked. Use the Properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file.

I can't copy or move the file. I can delete it, but it disappears instead of going to the Recycle Bin. Obviously I don't want to delete my photos.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I aswell am unable to open certain jpg files that I have. With windows picture & fax viewer it says "no preview available" and with my explorer settings to thumbnail, i can't even see them. I've tried opening them with paint to edit and I just get a blank page, but I know the pictures are there as they all have their different file sizes etc. still showing. The other strange thing is that I can't use a coventional right-click menu on any of these. Just a few options like preview, open with etc. I've tried opening it with many other programs with various error messages and I'm starting to get really fustrated. The bizare thing is that it doesn't affect all the jpg files in this particular folder, just random ones. Also this only started out of the blue, I didn't change anything on my computer - a little while ago,I was able to view and open all these jpg files without any problems. I've also tried re-detting file associations etc with no luck. Paint shop pro error message says "please enter a valid location" - I read in another forum that the file might have been deleted or moved when this message occurs, yet I've done a hard disk search and all the files come up only in the same directory. When I try to open with command with paint I get that the "xxx.bmp" was not found, but these are not bmp files. I tried opening one with notepad to check their original file extenstion and it tells me that "access is denied". I'm really runnig out of ideas and need some hekp badly!...please post a reply, message me or email me with any suggestions...many thanks in advance...soryy for typo etc as very tired,it's very late, and im very p*ssed!

There are a couple of programs that could help. One is PC inspector (Smart Recovery) that I have used to recover damaged photos. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html You will need another drive or partition, because the recovered images cannot go onto the drive with the original images.

The other is IrfanView which can open many different filetypes, and can recognize and correct improperly named formats. This is not a big help if the images are damaged.

If the photoes are so important, and if they have been taken with a digital camera, take the memory card to a photo shop and have them printed.

Second, I agree with Buck, you should download Irfanview free, open your file and save as JPEG
