I Have WIN 98 and has worked well forever. I opened a file from a friend and it acted like a virus us there. I stopped it as quickly as possible and ran my virus software, Morton 2004. It said I had 7 infections. Did what was said, rebooted and now I cannot open any application on the Hard drive, nor the CD drive.

I get a message "Windows cannot find Sir C32.exe. Need your help. Thanks.

Can you download on it ? if so you need to Download 'Hijack This! http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the " scan " button will change into a " save log " button.
Press that, save the log , load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

I am sending this from another computer. I can use internet Explore, however when I tried to download hijcker on the other computer I cannot open it; it says I need SirC32.exe to open the application. Says the same thing when I try to open any application, even using my cd drive

Thats a virus in itself. Go to safe mode and right click start / explore
Then click on C followed by Windows then click on System. Now look in the right pane for SirC32.exe. If its there then right click and delete then try rebooting and use Hijack.

# Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop.
# Click the View menu, and then click Options or Folder Options.
# Click the View tab.
4. Do one of the following:
* Windows 95. Select "Show all files."
* Windows 98. In the Advanced settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, select Show all files.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

You may have to reboot the system again to view these hidden files as well. If its not showing this time then do a start / search for it..

I opened all files as you directed me to, rebooted and looked for SirC32.exe as you directed and it's not there.
