Cannot find computer on network using IP address

Hello,

I am trying to create a folder on our network printer to save scans to. The printer is Ricoh Aficio MP C2500. Computer system info below.

I have walked through the setup process with the printer company, to no avail. The printer is unable to ping my computer, but can ping other computers on the network. I have shared folders available on the network, but when I try to access one of them from another computer, it denies access. The public folder is accessible. I have tried disabling the firewall to allow the printer to see the computer.

When I view the network computers from my computer, my computers name shows up twice. Once like this: EXITFRONTDESK and once like this: EXIT-FRONT-DESK. The printer is able to connect to EXIT-FRONT-DESK without any issue, except that the folders I share are under EXITFRONTDESK.

I am pulling my hair out trying to solve this problem, any help would be much appreciated.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following commands:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I don't know if this will help you, but that output clearly shows that the computer name is "ExitFrontDesk" and the user account being used is "Exit Front Desk". That still leaves unanswered the question of from where "EXIT-FRONT-DESK" comes. Is there perhaps another computer with that name?

I found the other computer! There a computer named EXIT-FRONT-DESK. I have changed the name to avoid further confusion with that. What would cause my computer not to be recognized by it's IP address? I can see it on the network, both from other computers and from the printer, but when I try to access anything except for the Public file. I can't access the public file from the printer.

Nice. Next time use simple CMD command to get the ping responses on your network using following information in the article: http://www.rangify.com/how-to-find-...-computer-network-using-cmd-or-network-tools/

Also, try "Open with adminstrative priviledges" for CMD. It might be why it is not recognizing the printer in first place. I may be wrong but give it try and let us know. Thanks.

We're talking about the IPv4 address (192.168.1.21), right? A firewall is the only thing I can think of. What firewall is on the system. I know you said that you disabled it, but often that just makes them more ornery. Usually have to get them configured properly or uninstall them.

I think that you have no other folders shared. Right click on another one - Properties - Sharing tab - Share - select "Everyone" from the drop down list - Add - Share. After that I think that you will see another line added to a nbtstat -n, and can access it from another computer/printer. But there still may be a firewall issue.
