Hey all.

If I went out and purchased a Windows XP Pro package, would I be able to install the operating System on my Windows 2000 computer?

If you need any information to to know, just reply.

Thanks to anyone who considers it

That 128MB RAM is what it had in it originally, I gather. But from the previous post (post #8) it seems to have been upgraded.

From the looks of what your system has got, it should be able to run XP pretty well.

You can run XP Pro I know someone that is running a 866 P-3 with a gig of ram with XP Pro but you really will be disappointed at the speed loss from 2000 to XP, personally I would just stay with 2000 until I upgraded my PC to a bigger processor model, but this is just my opinion I am sure everyone has their own. ;)

Will all the stuff on the computer be deleted when I upgrade?
First off I personally would not do an upgrade, I will do a new complete install, and you can save all you files to a cd or another drive if you want, and then do a new installation, yes you probably could do a successful upgrade from 2000 to XP but I just don't like to upgrade Operating Systems but I am sure it's done everyday, but again just my opinion.

Upgrading from Windows 2000 to XP is a far less troublesome thing than upgrading from 98. But generally, to avoid any possible calamities, you should do a complete reinstall. You can burn all your important stuff to a CD/DVD and copy them back when you're done.

Also, before you do connect your machine to the Internet, I really, really would install an antivirus and firewall. AVG Antivirus and ZoneAlarm are pretty good, and free (links are available in my signature).

Oh, one more question. Does that Windows XP CD come with Service Pack 2?
